"The Inevitability of Leaving Things Behind"
2017
Mannheim, Germany
I was invited by the Alte Feuerwache to Mannheim in Germany, a city populated by more than 160 nationalities where I decided to paint this first mural in a new series on a more realistic view of identity and how it is shaped by capitalism and globalization. The mural crystallises that moment in front of your luggage when you decide on what you will leave behind because you cannot take everything, a moment that is barely documented despite its universality in a globalized economy that has transformed human capital into a commodity that has to escape inequalities in search of a higher wage for their labors. These inequalities are shaping the identities of people and cities at the same time.
